Student shot dead in Kisumu ‘had gone to buy ice cream’

A man shot dead by police during the anti-IEBC demos in Kisumu on Monday, was a Form Four student who had gone to town to buy ice cream.

According to the mother, the deceased – Michael Okoth – who was shot in the neck and died on the spot, was an 18-year-old Form Four student at Vihiga High School, had been sent home over school fees arrears, and was shot while on his way to a nearby shop.

Eye witnesses say that the student was not among the demonstrators insisting that the protests had ended accusing the police officers of murder.

Michael’s mother says her son was supposed to sit for his KCSE exams that are scheduled to kick off at the end of this month, and had been sent home to collect a Ksh.10,000 fees arrears and had gone for ice cream in Kondele when he met his death.
