Students escape death after school bus plunges into river

Thirty five pupils and two teachers from Kirera Primary school in Meru County on Wednesday afternoon escaped death narrowly after their bus plunged into river Ruguti Bridge along Meru – Nairobi Highway.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Meru Deputy OCPD James Kilonzo said the bus lost control after two lorries heading towards Meru tried to overtake each other and hit the bus head-on along Ruguti Bridge in Tharaka Nithi County.

He confirmed that no injuries had been reported and added that the pupils and teachers managed to proceed for their destination using another bus.

The bus transporting the pupils belonged to Kaaga School for the Deaf in Meru County.

“Motorist along Meru – Nairobi highway should be keen on this road as it is slippery in the rainy season,” appealed the OCPD.
