Students forced to flee as knife-wielding gang terrorises Embu school

A gang of five men wielding knives is reported to be terrorizing students of St. Agnes Girls Secondary School Kiaganari in Runyenjes, Embu County.

Students have now been forced to flee the school and seek refuge in their homes.

The gang is said to have struck twice within the term, forcing the girls to flee fearing that they could be harmed.

Students, who did not want to be named, said the gang in the past struck late in the night and headed for one of the dormitories.

They reportedly raised alarm and one of the gang members was arrested and charged.

They added that the gang has been sending threatening messages to teachers in order to scare them not to testify in the ongoing case of the member who was arrested.

The girls walked out of the school compound on Sunday after the teachers left them under the care of the school security guards.

Only 10 out of 320 students remained in the school. This comes barely a day after the school held an Education Clinic for Form Three students where parents were not informed of the incidents.

Parents have expressed concern over the incidents and are now pleading with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his Education counterpart Amina Mohamed to intervene and offer security to their daughters.

Parents said it was sad that teachers could take off and leave the girls alone in the school.

The school management refused to speak to the media saying the matter had been taken over by the Education officers in Embu East sub-county.
