Students go on strike over unqualified speakers

Property worth thousands of shillings was destroyed after students from Kibuline Secondary School went on strike on Thursday demanding the removal of their principal over claims that the school’s head invites unqualified motivational speakers.

The students barricaded the road outside their school saying the principal invites motivational speakers who scored a D minus mean grade in their high school exams.

The irate students lamented that the unqualified motivational speakers are paid from their school fees, adding that the school makes them pay for first aid and hospital bills as well.

The students also complained that the school’s printer had broken down therefore they could not sit exams.

It took the intervention of police from Nchiru Police Station to quell the situation and make the students go back to school.

The deputy county commissioner for Tigania West, Stephen Kavuru, intervened and ordered the school closed till September as the administration sorts out the students’ grievances.

Efforts to reach the principal proved futile, as he and other teachers were not at the school.
