Students protest exemption in graduation list

Over 1,000 students from the University of Eldoret may not graduate on Friday, November 25, 2016 after their names were left out of the graduation list.

The students took to the streets to protest the anomaly on Thursday, November 24 saying that they have not been informed why their names were not included in the graduation list despite meeting all the necessary requirements.

“Up to now, our fate is not known. We do not know what next,” lamented, Andrew Leparsent, one of the students.

The students now want the Cabinet Secretary for education, Dr Fred Matiang’i to intervene and ensure they graduate.

“All of us have cleared our fee balances. Our names appeared in the first list but mysteriously disappeared in the final list. We do not know what criteria the university is using to exempt us from the list,” said another student who requested anonymity.

They further threatened to move to court to ensure that the graduation does not take place if they are not included in the list.

The school management could not be reached for a comment on the matter by the time of going to the press.
