Students stage dawn walkout in protest against principal

By Enock Muswii

Drama ensued in Kisukioni Secondary School in Matungulu, Machakos on Thursday morning after students staged a walkout to protest against their principal Benjamin Mutiso.

The students, who were destined to Governor Alfred Mutua’s office accused the principal of under performance and mismanagement of the institution.

Confirming the incident, police superintendent James Odera said that the students walked out of school at 4am with the aim of trekking to the governor’s office 50 kilometers away to present to him their grievances.

The students had covered 30 kilometers before the police stopped them and persuaded them to go back to school.

“We were informed that the students had snuck out of school and were heading to the governor’s office. We intercepted them 20 kilometers to their destination before we called the principal and told him to send a bus to come and pick them,” said Mr. Odera.

The police superintendent advised the students to lobby for a meeting with the administration to address their concerns adding that he had already contacted the principal over the matter.

“Marching to the governor’s office will not resolve the underlying issues. Only a meeting with the administration and parents will suffice,” said Mr. Odera.

When contacted by Citizen Digital, the principal declined to comment on the matter.

Some of the students were ferried back to school by the bus while the remaining ones were taken by an administration police truck.
