Students, watchman arrested on allegations of burning school over food

Five Embu High School students and a watchman are being held  in Embu Police Station over suspicions of setting ablaze two classrooms, staff room and a dormitory Sunday night.

According to Embu West Criminal Investigating Officer, Joshua Too, the six were arrested in the school compound shortly after the incident. Police said that although they were alerted when commotion in the school started, they arrived when the student had already set the school on fire.

The DCIO said that the suspects were arrested following a tip off from other students adding that investigations into the matter had already started.

The students are said to have been angered by the food ration and the mock exams.

This comes at the time when education stakeholders are strategising on ways to end students’ unrest in the country.
