Sugar wars: Ababu blasts Museveni

ODM secretary General Ababu Namwamba has responded to Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni over his brazen attack on CORD principal Raila Odinga’s opposition to the sugar deal.

Namwamba accused Museveni of dictatorship, saying that Kenya is a democratic nation where everyone has the freedom of speech, including Raila Odinga, unlike in Uganda where Museveni has no space for dissenting voices.

Namwamba said that ODM as a party cannot allow the sugar industry to be crippled by backhand deals that are not in the interest of sugar cane farmers across the country.

The secretary general added that Uhuru’s trip to Uganda was a waste of time as it did not address pertinent issues affecting Kenyans like the ownership of Migingo Island.

Museveni had blasted Raila Odinga over his opposition to the deal terming it a waste of time and instead applauded Uhuru for forging ahead in what he said was beneficial to both COMESA partners.

Raila, however, rubbished the remarks and called on the Jubilee Government to act in the interest of sugar farmers and companies.
