Support community development, President Uhuru tells Kenyans

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to support community change and development in their localities.

He said supporting initiatives that help improve one’s own neighbourhood or locality will boost the country’s progress, saying that every citizen has a duty to ensure he or she plays a positive role in making Kenya a better nation.

“We need to ask ourselves what can I do to make this country better or what do I need to do to make my neighbourhood much better?” the president said.

President Kenyatta spoke when he addressed worshippers during the dedication of Chrisco Church in Vota, Machakos County.

The church has been built on land donated by the family of Peter Muthoka who is also a member of Chrisco fellowship.

The dedication of the church was presided over by the co-founder of the Chrisco Fellowship Mama Cora Elizabeth Das.

The president commended the Muthoka family for honouring God with their resources and urged other Kenyans to emulate their example.

“This is not only something to celebrate but emulate, sometimes when we have success we tend to forget where that success came from, we need to give back to God who gave us,” said the president.

President Kenyatta thanked the leaders of Chrisco Church for supporting programmes aimed at improving communities.

“We are not only here celebrating the house of God, but also the fact that there are programmes catering for the needs of the community. We have heard that they are looking after the orphans,” said the president.

President Kenyatta commended the founders of Chrisco Church for their dedication and commitment in serving God saying Kenya’s greatest resource is its people and urged leaders to join hands in building a great nation.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua thanked the President for gracing the occasion. He said the country needs development conscious leaders and not those who divide wananchi along tribal lines.

Mr Muthoka commended the President for his humility saying: “Your humility and simple common touch is a great credit to you and we will continue to pray that God will give you great wisdom,” said Mr Muthoka.

Several leaders including local MPs and Senators from Ukambani attended the event.
