Supreme Court Halts Move To Replace Peter Munya

This is until the petition he has filed in the Supreme Court is heard and determined.

Judges in the highest court in the land in its ruling also said that it had jurisdiction to hear the petition from Munya.

The Court ordered that plans by the Meru County to replace the ousted Munya should not proceed.

Munya became the first Governor from Mt Kenya to lose his seat after a three judge bench overturned the ruling of High Court that upheld his election in August last year.

The judges nullified Munya’s election citing malpractices in the election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already received the certificate of nullification of Munya's election and is now preparing to call for elections.

The letter from IEBC was then copied to the Transition Authority as required by law, to ensure the County Speaker assumes office, in acting capacity, until the by-election is held.

Munya who was elected on Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) ticket has since challenged the ruling saying it lacked merit.

Munya was declared the winner after he garnered 184,273 votes against Dr Kilemi Mwiria’s 180,837 votes.
