Supreme Court to deliver ruling on Monday
The Supreme Court finalised its hearing on two presidential election petitions challenging the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday and is expected to deliver its judgment on Monday, November 20.
“The registrar will communicate the exact time of the ruling” said Maraga before adjourning.
In their submission, President Kenyatta’s lawyers asked the court to dismiss the case on grounds that his election was done in accordance with the law.
The president’s lawyers also said Raila Odinga’s withdrawal from the repeat presidential race was an abandonment of the electoral process and should not be used to challenge validity of the polls.
Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice David Maraga will now retreat to write their judgment.
Some of the contested issues that were raised by the petitioners included lack of nomination before the election and the withdrawal of NASA from the race.
If the court upholds Kenyatta’s re-election, then he will be sworn on 28th of November 2017.
