Sure condoms recalled over quality concerns

Manufacturers of Sure lubricated condoms have recalled batches of the condoms over quality concerns of the products.

Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) quality assurance manager Dr. John Aduda issued a letter asking those concerned to assist lifeline laboratories with the recall of the products.

The letter has it that the product under batch numbers 17dn754 and 17dn052, needed to be recalled due to quality issues.

The sure lubricated condoms are distributed through KEMSA by the government to all public institutions, free of charge.

However, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board has come out with additional information on other batch numbers of the product that need to be recalled.

The board maintains that the non-compliance is batch specific and does not impact the entire product of sure condoms.

More often than not, condoms are usually recalled if they are found to burst easily or bear holes.

The recall comes just months after the National Aids Control Council revealed that there are 52800 new HIV infections yearly.

With the scope of the distribution of the affected condoms unclear, users of the sure brand have been asked to be on the lookout for the affected batch numbers.
