Surrender Control of NHIF, Nurses Tell Government

Surrender Control of NHIF, Nurses Tell Government

Speaking in Kitale, the union’s secretary General Seth Panyako said it is ironical for the government to manage the health kitty yet it does not give out its equal share of contribution for each subscriber, as required.

Panyako added that workers would no longer allow the government to call shots on their own contributions just to raise funds to facilitate its re-election bid in the 2017 General Election, as has been the norm by past governments.

SHAMBOLIC, CONFUSED HEALTH BILL

The Secretary General also dismissed the health bill that is currently in the National Assembly, terming it shambolic and confused and saying it is a “mini-constitution” instead of being a set policies in line with the constitution.

The nursing trade union is also calling for the creation of a central body at the national government to deal with the hiring, transfer and payment of nurses, saying county governments have failed.

Panyako further raised alarm following the threatening of the union’s Trans Nzoia branch officials led by the region’s secretary Timothy Wamukota terming those with the plans as insincere.
