Surviving eight gunshots: The tale of man in the hands of thugs in Kasarani

A 32-year-old man who was shot 8 times by armed gunmen during a robbery now says he could not watch the shopkeeper who was his friend get killed whilst lying down.

Muema who has since made huge strides in his recovery journey narrated his ordeal to Citizen Digital explaining why he put his life on the line to save a friend.

The shooting incident in Kasarani, in Nairobi County, happened shortly after Muema walked into an MPESA shop to deposit some money.

Before the transaction took place, two armed men made their way into the shop at around 10.30pm with one of them brandishing a gun.

Till today, Muema says he cannot believe he is alive to tell the tale, in a scene seemingly straight out of a movie.

He recalls summoning some unexplainable power to try and save his friend the shopkeeper who was under attack, and being trampled and shot.

Niliangalia nikaona kama hawa watu wangeniuwa kama nimelala….nikainua kichwa nikaona ….niliambiwa nilipiga huyo mwizi,” said Muema.

Muema’s offensive on the gunman however unleashed a scary reaction leading to the shooting.

Now admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Muema has continued to receive utmost care with doctors having in mind that recoveries from gun attacks usually vary from patient to patient.

His gunshot injuries required complex medical procedures that included multiple surgeries.

For the past five weeks, he says, his life has changed forever but he is glad that 7 bullets have been successfully removed.
