Suspect arrested over Imperial Hotel robbery

Police in Kisumu county are holding a man suspected to be the mastermind of a daylight robbery at the Imperial Hotel in Kisumu.

The suspect in question was arrested on Monday evening in Juakali area and is being interrogated by police.

Other suspects who were on a motorbike and armed with Cesca pistol escaped with sh 140,000 during the daylight robbery few metres away from Kisumu central police station

According to the police report, the suspect is a driver to one of the contractors who is carrying out renovations at the hotel.

Police suspect that the contractor leaked information to the suspects about the routine of the accountant who usually takes cash to the bank.

One of the suspects accidentally dropped his phone at the scene of crime and conversations between the driver and the suspect were found leading to his arrest.

Investigators also got pictures and videos of the hotel staff on the phone and they suspect that it was sent by the driver who had been monitoring the movements of the cashier in and out of the hotel.

Kisumu county police commander Job Boronjo confirmed the arrest but declined to divulge further information.
