Suspect busted in Nakuru while making tomato sauce from chemicals

Police officers in Nakuru have busted one suspect with 3,000 litres of chemically-made tomato sauce dubbed “Sky Light”

Officers conducted the raid on Thursday evening within a residential home where the sauce, packed in five-liter and three-litre containers was nabbed.

Those privy to the matter said the suspect who is in custody and his accomplice who is on the run has been in the business for a while.

Footage from the raid showed the ‘sauce’ simmering in pans at a kitchen in what police believe is a racket that has been operating in Nakuru and its environs.

There were also several filthy high capacity tanks where the ready sauce was being stored before its transfer into the retail vials.

And although the contents of the concoction are yet to be revealed, detectives handling the matter are concerned about its health implications.

Hundreds of labels with a counterfeit Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) logo were also recovered.

The labels which detectives believe are printed in Nairobi mischievously listed several ingredients, ironically, fresh tomatoes were one of them.

The suspect is in custody awaiting arraignment in court as the chase for his accomplice intensifies.
