Suspect dies after rolling down a hill while escaping arrest in Homa Bay

A suspect died after rolling from the top of Gwassi hills in Suba South, Homa Bay County, while trying to escape arrest by officials from the Kenya Forest Service.

40-year-old Dominic Obara succumbed to injuries sustained as he reportedly rolled and hit rocks on his way down the hill.

Confirming the incident, area Assistant Chief Fredrick Hassan Oduol said the deceased – in the company of two other suspects – were illegally cutting down trees and burning charcoal on top of Gwassi hills.

They were found by the Kenya Forest Service officials conducting a raid on illegal logging but refused to surrender and instead fled.

The administrator added that one of the other suspects, a woman, is presently in custody at the Magunga Police Station while a hunt is still on for the third.

The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Sindo sub-county hospital.
