Suspect in court for assaulting Nairobi businessman

A suspect who surrendered to the police on Monday accused of assaulting a Nairobi businessman was arraigned in court on Tuesday and charged with robbery with violence.

Brian Owino, who is among five people wanted by the police for assaulting and robbing former Nairobi Business District Association (NBDA) chairman Timothy Muriuki pleaded not guilty before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

Owino, and his co-accused who are still at large, are accused of robbing and injuring Muriuki of Ksh.100,000 at Boulevard Hotel on April 30.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000 and his case will be mentioned on May 23.

The prosecution intends to consolidate Owino’s case with that of EALA MP Simon Mbugua and others who were arrested last week in connection with the assault on Muriuki.

Owino, together with four others still at large; Dishon Mulinge, Ronald Otieno, Michael Mbanya Wathigo and Hussein Suleiman moved to court seeking anticipatory bail on Friday but their prayers were rejected.

Police has placed a Ksh.50,000 bounty on each of the suspects by the police.
