Main suspect in ex-judge Effie Owuor’s farm manager murder arrested

Police in Kisumu have arrested the main suspect behind the brutal murder of retired Judge Effie Owuor’s farm manager in Muhoroni sub-county, Kisumu County.

Isaac Kiptoo Rono alias Malakwen was arrested on Monday in Kapsabet following a heavy manhunt by officers drawn from Kisumu and Nandi counties.

Confirming the arrest, Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola said they also arrested the suspect’s brother Simon Kibet who is a village elder of Chepkejei village in Tinderet sub-county.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Dola said police are also holding two owners of tractors which were being used to plough the land belonging to the retired judge at the time of the incident.

She added that they are still on the hunt for one other tractor owner so that they produce the individuals who were using their tractors on the day of the murder.

The police boss, who visited Kopere area for a peace meeting alongside her Nandi counterpart Mohammed Bare, said those arrested will be charged once investigations are complete.

She further called for calm among the locals in both counties, adding that the weekend killing was an act of criminality and not associated at all with any ethnic differences.

The farm manager, identified as George Benjo, was hacked to death on Saturday afternoon and his throat slit during the incident that also saw the retired Justice’s son Paul Owuor also seriously injured.
