Suspect in Ksh.140M Dubai cash heist released

George Gitau Maina, the man linked with the theft of Ksh.140million on transit to Dubai has been released.

Nairobi Milimani Court Magistrate Helen Onkwani released him on a bond of Ksh.500,000.

An alternative cash bail of Ksh.300,000 was also set pending charges being preferred against him on condition that he deposit his passport in court.

In a short ruling, the presiding magistrate noted that the investigators through the prosecution did not table any compelling reason to have the subject held further.

An investigation officer had applied before court to have the respondent detained for seven days more after a lapse of the 14-day period of the previous court directive.

The case will be mentioned on Friday for the purpose of consolidation with a similar one before court.
