Suspect in Monica Kimani killing Brian Kassaine freed

Brian Kassaine, one of the suspects in the Monica Kimani murder case has been freed after spending eleven days in custody.

On Thursday, the court however ordered Kassaine to be reporting to the Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) every Thursday.

He was arrested on September 29 after police raided his house in Lang’ata estate in Nairobi.

The main suspect Joseph Irungu alias Jowie suffered a gunshot wound under his shoulder, a puzzle that has preoccupied officers since the case began.

It is said that he attempted suicide at his fiancee Jackie Maribe’s house using a gun that allegedly belongs to Kassaine.

Maribe has since been remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison as she awaits a mental assessment to be conducted before taking plea.

Irungu on the other hand is at  the Industrial Area Remand Prison and will be back in court with Maribe on October 15.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji directed that the two be charged with murder.

“I am satisfied that there exists a prima facie to warrant criminal prosecution…for the offence murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code,” said the DPP in a statement.

They are accused of directly or indirectly being involved in the killing of Monica Kimani at her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Kilimani on the night of September 19.
