Suspect linked to Quiver Lounge shooting of two police officers detained for 7 days

A Nairobi court has detained Dickson Njanja Mararo, the suspect behind the shooting of two police officers and a woman at Quiver Lounge in Kasarani, Nairobi, for 7 days to allow for completion of investigations.

Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul on Wednesday ruled that although a proper case had been made to detain the suspect and despite the charges being serious, the 14-day period earlier sought by police was too long.

Magistrate Abdul noted that the character of the suspect after the incident also does not favour him as he went underground afterward and only surrendered three days later.

The court further heard that two of the victims have, since the incident, been treated and discharged while one of them is still in hospital.

The matter was set for mention on July 15, 2021.

Police had on Tuesday sought 14 days to detain the suspect to enable them record statements, retrieve CCTV footages and prepare a cyber-forensic report.

They also sought to obtain a report from ballistic examiners, medical reports of the victims and conduct an identification parade for the victims to identify the suspect.

Mararo however, through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, objected the application.

The accused is alleged to have shot and injured the officers following an altercation over a woman.
