Eight people have been confirmed dead and several others injured after suspected Al-Shabaab militia attacked a bus they were travelling in at Wargadud village, Tarabaj constituency in Wajir County.

The Medina bus was enroute to Mandera from Nairobi before suspected alshabab militants ambushed it on Friday at around 5pm.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the militants separated the passengers into two groups before shooting non-locals.

The bus driver and the passengers who survived the ordeal, opted to turn back and went to Kutulo Police Station where the bus remains.

The eight include; six police officers, a medic and a civilian.

In a statement to newsrooms, authorities now say they have identified four survivors; three police officers and a civilian, adding that they are still searching for two police officers who are believed to have been in the bus.

While sending his condolence message to the bereaved families, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured the public that security agencies are pursuing the attackers and will not relent until they are captured.

“The President would like to inform the country that security forces are pursuing the killers and assures that the Government will not relent in its ruthless crackdown on criminal elements including suspected terrorists in its solemn duty to safeguard the lives and property of Kenyans,” read the statement.

The Head of State further issued a strong warning to people he termed as misguided elements, whose actions harm innocent Kenyans saying that no effort will be spared in neutralizing the threat.
