Suspected Al Shabaab Recruits arraigned in Mombasa court

The three were reportedly arrested on Sunday as they tried to cross into Somalia to join Al Shabaab terror group.

The suspects, Khadija Abubakar, Mariam Said and Ummu Sadir, are accused of disguising themselves as students going for further studies in a Khartoum University.

They did not, however, take a plea as police requested for more time to carry out investigations

According to police, the suspects were actually going to join Al Shabaab as suicide bombers.

The prosecution, through Robert Wangila, pleaded with the court to give police 20 days to enable them expand their investigations to other parts of East Africa.

Mombasa Resident Magistrate Irene Ruguru granted the police their plea.
