Suspected cattle rustlers fatally shoot man in Laikipia

A middle-aged man was on Friday, March 10 night shot dead by suspected cattle rustlers at Maua village in Nyahururu Sub County.

The suspects, believed to be from the neighbouring Baringo County, shot dead Mr Johannah Kamelel before fleeing into the nearby valley.

According to local residents, the unknown number of raiders armed with crude weapons stormed into the village terrorizing them before shooting the deceased five times.

Residents further detail how police arrived and a fierce shoot-out ensued as the officers and the residents made frantic efforts to retrieve the body from down the valley.

The body has since been removed to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital Mortuary as police continue to hunt down the suspects.

Following the rising insecurity cases in the area, residents are now calling on the government to deploy security personnel at the Miteta and Maua police posts.

Led by former Industrialization Assistant Minister, Nderitu Muriithi, the residents have also demanded an increased in the number of the National Police Reservists (NPRs) in the region to help deal with insecurity in the area.
