Suspected kidnapper gunned down in Thika

By Gitau Wanyoike

Police in Thika on Saturday evening gunned down a suspected kidnapper in the sprawling Kiandutu slums and recovered a pistol with four rounds of ammunition.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno identified the suspect as 32-year old Dennis Kimani Mwitheri aka Denoo, further describing him as a “dangerous criminal.”

Mr. Nuno, who only took office last week, said the deceased was traced to his home following the kidnapping of two girls from Kenyatta Secondary School in Makongeni, Thika, on May 1, 2019.

“The girls’ parents reported them missing on May 2 and, following intense investigations by our officers, they were traced to the suspect’s house in Kiandutu,” said the police boss.

The deceased reportedly fired at unarmed police officers who went to arrest him but they, fortunately, overpowered  and fatally shot him using his own pistol.

Mr. Nuno, while firing a warning shot to criminals in the county, said the deceased was part of a gang that has been terrorizing Kiandutu slum dwellers and Thika residents for a while.
