Suspects arrested re-painting a stolen vehicle

Police in Nyamira have arrested five suspects and recovered a stolen motor vehicle hidden in a sugar plantation in Rongo, Migori County.

According to Nyamira DCIO George Nyaga, the suspects were arrested as they were re-painting the Matatu.

He said that they had already changed the registration number from KAZ 992U to KBK 205W and that the arrest was a breakthrough as similar incidents were on the rise.

He stated that police are looking for the driver of the matatu and another suspect who have since gone missing.

Samson Mogoa, the owner of the matatu, said he woke up in the morning and was shocked when he realized his vehicle, which operates along the Kisii-Kericho route, was missing from the parking at Tinga market in Nyamira prompting him to raise alarm.

Members of the community policing mounted a search and he was informed that the matatu had been spotted in Kisii driving towards Rongo in Migori County.

Nyaga mentioned that the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

The Matatu was towed to Nyamira police divisional headquarters.
