Suspects busted with elephant tusks in Maralal released on Ksh.5M bond

Two men were arraigned in a Maralal court in Samburu County for being in possession of elephant tusks without a legal permit.

The tusks weighed 23 kilograms and were valued at Ksh.2.3million.

Don Mawiri Mbaabu and Cyrus Kipng’etich Koech appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Abraham Gachie on Friday.

They however denied the charges and were released on bond of Ksh.5million each or a surety of a similar amount.

Both offences were allegedly committed at Angata Rongai in Samburu County on October 24, 2018 at around 11pm.

The Nissan vehicle bearing number plate KAL 502E that they were found with was impounded.

The duo are still in custody as they are yet to raise the bond amount.

The case will be heard on November 14, 2018 after a mention on November 8.
