Suspects failing to complete Community service orders warned

Probation Officers in Embu County, have raised concerns over the increase in the number of accused persons who fail to complete Community Service Orders and reappear in courts for similar offences.

This comes after a woman and two men were arraigned in court barely a week after they were sentenced to Community service but they did not honor the orders.

Embu Principal magistrate Robinson Oigara pointed out Friday, that majority of those who fail to complete Community service orders are those arraigned for illegal consumption and sale of illicit brew.

“They ought to keep in mind that the Community Service Orders are meant to rehabilitate and correct their mistakes and not to take the order lightly.” said Robinson Oigara.

Oigara has therefore called upon  probation offices to present case files of those who have faulted the sentences in order for the court to enforce them.

He warned that the court will not hesitate in enforcing the sentences in cases where one is not ready to reform.

The probation office is now appealing to the court to enact orders to those who fail to complete their sentence to finish in jail in order to rehabilitate them.
