Suspects in Wetangula’s rally skirmishes charged in court

Two people suspected of disrupting Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula’s meeting during the launch of his presidential bid at the Kakamega’s Muliro Gardens were on Wednesday arraigned in a Kakamega Court.

The two, identified as Fredrick Andaria and Wycliffe, were charged with causing disturbance and hurling teargas canisters to innocent persons attending Wetangula’s presidential launch at Muliro Garden early this month.

Kakamega Resident Magistrate Benson Khapoya, who first heard the case on April 18th, said the two will first undergo medical test before appearing in court again after reports indicated that they were under medication and not fit to stand trial at the moment.

However, Sammy Wafula – the lead counsel of the accused, the medical examination recommendation by the court was meant to waste time and delay justice for his clients.

Investigating officer Inspector Samuel Kimutai refuted the claims saying the two suspects were not able to speak on April 7th when they were summoned to court and it is important that the court is assured they are fit to stand trial.

The two have been under police custody from Aptil 6th when they were arrested.
