Suspended anti-drugs officials term decision null and void

Suspended National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) officials have termed the decision to suspend them as null and void.

Led by the Chief Executive Officer William Okedi, the officials said that the corruption allegations leveled against them were unfounded and cannot be used to discipline them.

okedi and five other officials were suspended by the body’s chair John Mututho over allegations of misappropriating Ksh 99 million by paying out the funds to non-existent companies.

NACADA’s Vice Chair Glady’s Karaiya said the decision by the chair was uninformed as he did not consult with the other members of the body.

However, Mututho says that the suspension of Okedi, alongside 5 senior NACADA officials, was done procedurally.

Okedi’s suspension was announced by Mututho last week.

Okedi was suspended over claims that 99 million shillings meant to boost the war against drug abuse  ended up in the hands of non-existent and under-serving groups.
