Swazuri reveals 20 out of 26acres of Mama Ngina Drive grabbed

National Lands Commission Chairman Mohamed Swazuri has revealed that 20 acres of Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa have been grabbed leaving only six acres for public use.

Speaking on Thursday during a tour of the park, Swazuri cited a report where 13 people claimed ownership and presented title deeds for 20 acres of the land.

How they got the title deeds for Mama Ngina Drive, Swazuri said it was a mystery to him.

He ordered that two perimeter walls erected by the said land grabbers be knocked down.

The NLC chairman further said that a notice will be placed in the Kenya Gazette next week directing all those claiming to own part of Mama Ngina Drive to renounce within three months.

This he said will ensure restoration of the park continues without a hitch.

On Tuesday, during the launch of the Mama Ngina Drive Regeneration project, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the NCL and the Lands Ministry to reclaim the grabbed land before the end of June this year.

The facelift that will reportedly cost Ksh.460million is expected to change the park, renamed the Mombasa Waterfront, to international standards.
