Swazuri: Only NLC To Decide On Lamu Land Row

The chairman of the commission Dr Mohamed Swazuri has termed the revocation of the title deeds ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta as political.

Swazuri further added that the National Land Commission will treat the order by the President as a complaint.

Speaking in Kilifi County, Swazuri intimated that the commission was the only body mandated to deal with such land issues such as revocation of titles irregularly acquired.

This comes just a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordered the police and Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission to jointly probe the Lamu land grab.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo and EACC chairman Mumo Matemu, the DPP expressed concern over parallel probe of the land scam.

Tobiko further directed a team of prosecutors to provide technical guidance to the joint team on the probe.

The National Land Commission boss has now given the affected 22 entities in Lamu 15 days to avail documents for verification then his team will decide whether to revoke the titles or not.
