Taita Taveta MCAs engage in fist fight over people’s assembly motion

Taita Taveta Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on Friday engaged in a fist fight as the House was passing opposition’s People Assembly motion.

The county legislators exchanged blows and hurled chairs at each other after those elected on a National Super Alliance (NASA) ticket allegedly attempted to force through the motion.

At some point , Jubilee MCAs are also reported to have attempted to run away with with the mace but their efforts were thwarted by the sergeant at arms.

Minority leader Ronald Sangurani who doubles up as Mahoo Ward MCA termed the passing of the motion as unconstitutional all the while accusing Assembly Speaker Meshack Maghana of bias.

Majority leader however defended the motion saying that the motion was passed constitutionally.

“We are strongly opposed to the unlawful passing of this motion. The speaker was also partisan in the matter,” said a furious Mr. Sangurani.

A section of MCAs led by Marungu ward MCA Paul Waweru have since pledged to impeach the speaker.
