Tana death toll up to three as tension remains high

One more person has died and four others seriously injured at Rebai in Hola, Tana River County after he was stabbed in the back, taking the death toll to three as the clashes in the area enter the seventh day.

According to Police Commandant Silver Githungo, a group of youths trailed the deceased who was herding Camels at a watering hole.

Githungo said that it was during the ensuing commotion that the 40-year-old man was fatally stabbed at the back and died on the spot while four others were seriously injured.

The police boss, however, added that after they sought treatment at Hola Hospital they were arrested and placed under tight security as they recuperate for their involvement in the killing.

Tensions have been high in the area since last weekend after two communities clashed over grazing and farming fields in Tana River County, leaving two dead, several injured and houses torched.

Leaders in Tana River and Kilifi Counties had on suturday moved to quell tensions and restore peace amongst the warring groups that has seen several families displaced from Hurara, Msurujani, Miti Charaka and Katsangani villages in Tana Delta Sub–County.
