Tana River: Class 3 girl in sexual assault case goes missing

The ruling of a case in which a man is accused of impregnating a Class Three pupil at a school in Tana River County was on Monday adjourned after the victim went missing.

The 13-year-old girl, who was impregnated on May 5, 2016, delivered a baby girl in early 2017 before returning to school early this year.

Garissa Chief Magistrate Cosmos Maundu on Monday ordered police at Madogo Police Station who have been handling the case to produce the minor in court before August 20 when the ruling is set to be delivered.

Speaking to the press after the court directive, the girl’s father said his daughter was at home the whole of Sunday and was only discovered missing on Monday morning.

“We spent the whole of yesterday with her. We spent the night together in the same compound but when we woke up this morning we were shocked to learn that she was not there. Only her child was there,” said the father.

The father immediately reported the matter to Madogo police station.
