A Tanzanian drug trafficker has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with a fine of Ksh,90million.

Hussein Idd was found guilty of trafficking narcotics by a Mombasa Law Court.

He had appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Edgar Kagoni on Tuesday.

If he fails to raise the Ksh.90million fine, he will spend five more years in prison, the Magistrate ruled.

The Tanzanian national was found with 10 kilos of heroine in March 2018 at the Regency Hotel in Mombasa.

In July last year, the same court sentenced another Tanzanian drug trafficker to 20 years in prison and fined him Ksh.26.6million.

Harun Bakari Juya had been in police custody for three-and-half years after his arrest in Lungalunga after arriving in Kenya from Tanzania.

It was during the security check at the border that he was found with 2.975 kilograms of heroin worth Ksh.8.9million.

And in October last year, Mary Mukami Mwangi was jailed for 20 years after she was found guilty of drug trafficking.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), she was found with 83 pellets of cocaine weighing 929 grammes at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

She had been arrested two years ago while attempting to leave for Indonesia.

However, the case of Jack Marrian, a British aristocrat, stands out from the rest after a court acquitted him of drug trafficking charges.

This is after the High Court set aside magitarte decision that declined to have the case withdrawn.

While acquitting Mr. Marrian, the High Court faulted the Magistrate’s Court for not allowing an application by DPP to have charges against the accused and another withdrawn.
