Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu reshuffles cabinet, drops chief secretary

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has picked Mwigulu Nchemba as her finance minister, she said in a televised announcement on Wednesday.

Nchemba has been serving as the minister for legal and constitutional affairs.

Liberata Mulamula was named as the new Foreign Affairs Minister while Ummy Mwalimu is now a Minister in the President’s office.

AMb. Mulamula replaced Prof Palamagamba Kabudi who has been moved to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

She becomes the second woman to serve in that position after Dr Asha-Rose Migiro who served between January 2006-2007.

Chief Secretary Bashiru Ally was also dropped just one month after he was appointed. He has been replaced by Tanzania’s ambassador to Japan Hussein Yahya Kattanga.

On Wednesday, the Tanzanian President warned her ministers against not assigning deputy ministers any tasks.

Speaking after the swearing in ceremony of Vice President Philip Mpango, President Samia Suluhu cautioned that this practice causes frictions within the ministries and should be shunned.
