Taxi driver checks himself into Mbagathi Hospital after exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms

A Taxi Driver on Tuesday checked himself into the Mbagathi Hospital after exhibiting COVID-19 like symptoms.

The driver who operates from the JKIA said he had shortness of breath followed by a high fever, joint fever and a dry cough that was getting worse.

He checked himself in at the Mukuru Health Centre at around 9.a.m on Tuesday morning.

Citizen Digital understands that he interacted with two nurses at the facility before he was isolated.

While in isolation, he said he has interacted with a number of passengers who have been arriving into the country for the last two weeks.

Following his isolation, the health facility remained closed down for the better part of Tuesday Morning as workers waited for government health officials to transfer the patient to the Mbagathi Hospital.

And on Tuesday evening, he was transferred to the Mbagathi Hospital by a team from Red Cross.

So far, Kenya has confirmed four cases of the COVID-19. All the cases are under isolation at the Mbagathi Hospital.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced on Tuesday evening that one more patient had tested positive for coronavirus in Kenya bringing the total number to 4.

Speaking during a Press conference , the CS revealed that the patient had travelled from London on March 8 and arrived in Kenya the next day.

“The four patients are healthy and are being looked after. The search for those that the latest patient has been in contact with is ongoing. We continue to ask citizens to maintain hygiene,” he said.

Kenyans have also been advised to use the toll free line 719 to get more information.

According to the CS, samples from the fourth patient were confirmed as positive by the National Influenza Centre.

He noted that so far, laboratories at the National Influenza Centre and the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) have tested 111 suspected cases.
