Teacher arrested over brutal beating of 6-year-old boy

A teacher has been arrested in connection with the brutal beating of a Class One boy at Kamukunji Primary School in Ol Joro Orok area, Nyahururu, Nyandarua County.

The arrest comes amid demands for justice from parents, children rights activists as well as area residents.

Two teachers are at large as the six-year-old boy remains hospitalised at Nyahururu Referral Hospital after the three teachers reportedly found him playing in class and began to beat him up.

According to the child’s mother, Mary Wangechi, the school head teacher called and informed her that her son had a problem.

Upon arrival, her son’s classmates informed her that the teachers “stepped on him with their shoes and then exposed his private parts.”

Doctors at the Laikipia hospital have revealed that besides severe trauma, the boy suffered a six-centimeter cut on his left scrotum.

A group of students from Laikipia University’s Nyahururu Town Campus and children activists visited the boy at the hospital where they also demanded for action against the suspects whom they say are well known.

Officers from the Department of Criminal Investigations are still probing the matter and have assured parents that there are crucial leads that could help in arresting the remaining two suspects.
