Teacher injured me using Bunsen burner pipe

A female student from Baraka Secondary School in Londiani, Kericho County is nursing serious injuries after her teacher allegedly beat her using a pipe from a Bunsen burner.

Zipporah Wangui Wanjiru, 18, was discharged from Londiani Sub-County Hospital on Tuesday after undergoing treatment for two days. She had injuries on her back.

The student narrated to Citizen Digital how her Chemistry teacher assaulted her after he spotted her taking a piece of paper from a fellow student during and exam.

Ms. Wangui claimed that her friend asked for exam answers but she declined and put paper in her pocket only for the teacher to appear and victimise her for it.

She was ordered to leave the examination room afterwhich she was beaten so badly that she had to be hospitalised.

Her uncle Samuel Mwangi Karanja said the matter was reported at Londiani Police Station and a P3 form issued to that effect.

He added that Education Ministry officials from Kipkelion East were informed about the incident but are yet to visit the school as they said they would.

The headteacher is also reportedly yet to take any action on the accused teacher. Efforts to reach him for comments were futile as he was said to be away on official duty.

Mr. Karanja is now urging the ministry to intervene saying this is not the first time that such an incident has occurred at the school.
