Teacher in court over lesbianism allegations

A female secondary school teacher accused of sexually abusing her female students was on Monday arraigned in a Maseno court and charged with four counts of the offense.

Brenda Christine Awuor, a teacher at a school in Seme sub-county, Kisumu County, appeared before resident magistrate Chrispine Oruo and denied allegations of sexual assault and committing indecent acts with two of her students.

According to the charge sheet, the offenses were committed on various dates over a two-year period from 2016.

The charge sheet further stated that Awuor indecently touched and had sexual acts with the girls, one of whom was reportedly a minor.

She was released on a bond of Ksh.300,000 for the first charge of three counts of sexual assault with the adult student and Ksh.200,000 for indecently touching the minor.

The magistrate ruled that the accused would remain in custody until she can raise the sum.

The matters will be mentioned on June 4 and heard on June 27 and June 28 respectively.

The prosecution has a total of 16 witnesses set to testify against the accused.
