Teacher Killed, Guards Injured In Daadab Attack

According to Dadaab deputy county commissioner Albert Kimanthi, the gunmen who wore balaclavas and whose number could not be established stormed the compound at around 3 am armed with AK-47 rifles.

They then proceeded to open fire at those in the compound killing the teacher instantly and injuring four guards from the G4S security company.

The injured were rushed to the nearby International Rescue Center [IRC] hospital for first aid before being transferred to Dadaab district hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, a joint operation that involved the regular and administration police officers was carried out in the camp in an effort to nab the criminals.

The incident comes at a time when relative calm had returned in the sprawling refugee camps with no major incident being reported for a long time.

The last incident occurred in the camp on April 23rd, 2014 when unknown assailants attacked the local UNHCR offices, killed one official and escaped with the humanitarian agency’s vehicle.
