Teachers to blame for exam cheating, woman rep says

Embu County Women Representative Rose Mitaru has called on teachers to up their game in order for learners to benefit from the education system.

While citing the significant drop witnessed in the 2016 e exam results, Mitaru said that this shows that most learners depend on cheating.

Mitaru added that the results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi were a clear indication that teachers have also abdicated their teaching responsibilities to students, forcing them to cheat in a bid to pass examinations.

Mitaru, who is also member of Education Committee at the National Assembly, said that it is time teachers woke up and started teaching properly, adding that the results have painted a grim picture for the country’s future.

While the country celebrates credible exams results, Mitaru said there is need for teachers to go back to the drawing board and see to it that students are taught well.

Mitaru called on all stakeholders in the education sector to play their role effectively.
