Technical University lecturers ordered to resume strike

The Universities Academics Staff Union has ordered that all lecturers from the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) resume their strike with immediate effect.

UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga said the government is yet to sign an agreement with the tutors.

“I want to see Technical University members on strike forcefully. This institution is insolvent.

“We have notorious universities that have done statutory deductions but did not remit,” he said during a Press briefing on Tuesday.

He listed them as TUK, University of Nairobi, Moi University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Mr. Wasonga further accused the media of failing to expose the lecturers plight.

Last week, Prof. Joseph Kiplang’at, Deputy VC of Administration, Planning and Infrastructure at TUK, wrote a memo indicating that an “overwhelming number of staff were willing and ready to continue discharging their duties.”

The latest strike by public university lecturers is the fourth in less than fifteen months.
