Teen commits suicide by throwing self into a waterfall

A middle-aged lady believed to be a high school student on Monday, September 19 committed suicide after throwing self at the Sagana waterfall in Nyeri.

The lady, aged between 16 and 19 years, threw herself in the fall at around midday.

According to an eyewitness, Mugambi Njau, he found the lady sited by the waterfall and efforts to persuade her not to commit suicide were futile.

Mugambi said he tried to grab her but she managed to slip into the waterfall before he could rescue her.

Nyeri Central OCPD, Makau Masaai, has called on any family that might have a missing daughter to report to the police station as efforts to retrieve the body continue.

According to Makau, the girl left behind a cellphone but she had deleted all the contacts and messages.

However, there was an audio recording saying: “You shall never see me again.”

Nyeri Central Deputy County Commissioner, John Marete, said the recording was meant for her yet-to-be established boyfriend.

He said that the government will fence the waterfall to ensure such incidences do not occur in future.
