10 feared dead after boat disappears in Lamu

Ten people, among them family members of Lamu ODM politician Shekue Kahale Kombe, feared dead after a boat they were travelling in capsized in the Indian Ocean in Manda on Sunday night.

Shekue Kahale Kombo was found alive on Monday morning by the search and rescue team which has also recovered three bodies, but his wife and children have not yet been found.

The Lamu politician and members of his family boarded the vessel, MV Samaki, on Sunday night at about 10pm at Kizingitini headed to Lamu Island but the boat was reported missing hours later.

Search and rescue mission speared by the Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Police, Kenya Navy, Kenya Maritime Authority as well as local divers is still underway to find the remaining people.

However, Operation Linda Boni Forest Director Joseph Kanyiri said that the recovery process has greatly been hindered by the high sea tides.

Mr Shekue lost in the just concluded polls to a Jubilee Party candidate.
