Ten injured after matatu plunges into river

Ten people escaped death narrowly after a matatu they were travelling in from Nairobi to Meru plunged into River Karano at Research area along the Meru-Nairobi road.

According to farmers who witnessed the 7am incident, the matatu was speeding before it hit two cows that were crossing the road.

David Kamau, a government official, said that the impact of hitting the cows caused the matatu to swerve and plunge into the river.

Kamau added that three people who sustained serious injuries were admitted while seven others who received minor injuries were treated and allowed to leave.

The matatu was pulled out of the river and taken to Wang’uru Police Station.
