Ten pro-Waiguru supporters charged in court

Ten people who were arrested on Tuesday in Kabete, Kiambu County during a protest in support of embattled Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru have been charged in court.

The ten appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Daniel Musyoka at the Kikuyu Law courts and pleaded guilty to the charges of committing common nuisance by blocking the Wanginge-Nakuru road.

The youths were released on a two thousand shillings fine each or face a one month jail term.

The ten were arrested during the pro Waiguru demo where protesters dismissed demands by opposition leader Raila Odinga that the Cabinet Secretary be probed over the National Youth Service tender scam.

In July, Waiguru was grilled by Members of the Parliamentary joint committees on Labour and Social Welfare and Finance, Planning and Trade over the controversy surrounding the National Youth Service (NYS) procurement process.

The NYS had in recent weeks been put on the spot over alleged corruption in some of its flagship projects in the country.

NYS was put on the spot over alleged corruption in tenders.

The fiasco stemmed from a letter from the Central Bank of Kenya to the Devolution Ministry questioning hurried payments of hundreds of millions of shillings to private companies through NYS.

However, Waiguru claimed to have been the whistle blower in asking the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe fraudsters who attempted to steal Ksh 826 million from the youth service.
