Ten students charged with attempted arson

Ten students from MCK Kiangari Secondary School in Tharaka Nithi County were on Wednesday arraigned in a Chuka Court and charged with attempted arson.

Appearing before Principle Magistrate Mwanamkuu Sudi, the ten denied the charges leveled against, including being found in possession of petrol and intention to burn the school.

They were released on a Ksh 50,000 cash bail each with an alternative Ksh 100,000 bond. The case will be mentioned on August 24th, 2016.

Elsewhere, learning was paralyzed in two more secondary schools after learners turned unruly.

Kiini Girls Secondary School in Ndia, Kirinyaga was closed Wednesday morning following a Tuesday night inferno that gutted down a dormitory and destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

Keringet Boys Secondary School in Nakuru County was also closed indefinitely a day after five litres of petrol were found hidden in one of the dormitories.

It is alleged that there was a plan to set the school’s administration and dormitories on fire.
